image The Allaxha mosque is among the oldest mosques in Skopje. It represents an important historical and architectonical monument. It is situated in Bit Pazar (the green market). It was built in the first half of the XV century by Isa beg, the famous Turkish warrior. Isa beg lived and worked during the rule of Sultan Murat II, a period of expansion and strengthening of the Ottoman power in this part of Europe.Nearby the Allaxha mosque there is a Turbe which represents a truly beautiful architectural monument. It is of a closed type and it has a dome. It has six angles and it is built in a precise way with manufactured rock. Except for the rich decoration it is dominated by light blue and turquoise green colors and an overwhelming faience (crockery) decoration. This turbe and the Jeni mosque in the city of Bitola are the only monuments in the territory of former Yugoslavia, which have kept their faience decoration. The turbe of the Allaxha mosque was fully refurbished after the earthquake in 1963 and the faience decoration was refurbished in 1972 with ceramic plates.
