The Ans, also known as the “karvansarajs”, represent important objects of the profane oriental architecture. What used to be sleepovers inside the bazaar in which tradesmen who would come to Skopje for trade would spend the night, have been transformed into multipurpose facilities; however they have maintained their original design and it is not difficult to recognize that these buildings used to serve as motels. Situated at three locations: at the entrance, in the middle and at the exit from the bazaar, these ans continue to foster their spirit from the past. You could still recognize what used to be rooms in the past, even though these have been adjusted to the everyday needs of modern living. In these locations you will find pleasant restaurants. They represent environments where you could enjoy a relaxing afternoon, having a drink or simply observing the tourists who stroll around the rocks of the bazaar and admire its beauties.
